ACCOUNTANCY
The traditional way of studying for Accountancy Examinations
was by correspondence course. This was boring and inefficient, though a good
test of character and perseverance.
Having been a tutor to Liverpool Society of CA's in the 1930's after war service
the late Ronald (Ronnie) Anderson embarked on his revolutionary approach to the
task and set up his full time courses in North Wales, moving to Caer Rhun Hall
in 1953. He was way ahead of his time and led the way with structured learning
and reinforcement with proper appraisal and evaluation together with development
of programmed learning and use of CCTV. On his death in 1971 John Anderson took
over the task and a first class team of tutors led the way in providing integrated
teaching packages for major firms of Chartered Accountants.
Founding Societies Centenary Award
In
2001 John Anderson was awarded the ICAEW Founding Societies Centenary Award the
profession's top accolade. The award is granted to a member of the Institute
of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales who has made an outstanding contribution
in any field of endeavour. Ian Plaistowe, Chairman of the Founding Societies'
Centenary Awards Selection Committee, added: "the award is granted to one of
our members who has made a significant contribution to society. John Anderson
is a good example of a Chartered Accountant who has done a great deal for the
community in North Wales, particularly as a distinguished magistrate. He has
also maintained enormously high educational and training standards at Caer Rhun
Hall which has helped Chartered Accountants to retain their pre eminence both
in the professional and commercial world."
Developments
Anderson Thomas Frankel - Financial Training
In 1958 the firm of Anderson Thomas Frankel was set up in London with Ronnie, Gervase Thomas and Mervyn Frankel as partners. Originally a professional practice the firm soon met an insatiable demand by moving into accountancy tuition. This was a huge success and became Financial Training Ltd (FT) in 1971 and a public company.
Caer Rhun went its own way under John Anderson in 1971, expanded its residential base and opened offices in London, Birmingham and Manchester.
In 1983 Andersons Tutors became part of the Accountancy Tuition Centre but the ownership of Caer Rhun Hall remained vested in the Anderson family.
Peter Anderson is a director of Kaplan Financial Ltd which took over the Financial Training group into which ATC had been subsumed in 2003.
Caer Rhun Hall has its own skilled tutor team, led by Amanda Waring who ensures the same dedicated work ethic which has made Caer Rhun such a successful long-term enterprise, during the time when no less than six similar establishments have come and gone. Modern students however, enjoy amenities including single en-suite study bedrooms which will amaze those pioneers from earlier dormitory days.
